About the Presenter: Weiqi Gao is a Principal Software Engineer with Object Computing, Inc.  He has been programming on the Java platform since 1998, and worked at many companies around St. Louis and around the country.  He is a presenter and a member of the St. Louis Java Users Group steering committee.  He has written many articles for OCI's Software EngineeringTech Trends.  He is a coauthor of the Pro JavaFX Platform, Pro JavaFX 2, and Pro JavaFX 8 series of books from Apress.

About the Presentation: Since Sun Microsystem announced it at JavaOne in 2007, JavaFX has evolved from a RIA platform requiring a special language into a full fledged modern GUI toolkit for desktop computers (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux), smart phones and tablets (iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Surface Pro), and embedded devices (Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and others).  JavaFX 8, which is a part of Oracle JDK 8, offers a fantastic set of UI controls, layouts, animations, and charts; supports media playback and webview; allows GUIs to be created graphically (SceneBuilder) or declaratively (FXML), and styled by CSS; and supports 3D scenes when appropriate video hardware is available.

In this talk, Weiqi will focus on the following areas of the JavaFX 8 tool chain:

• The SceneBuilder GUI designer

The JavaFX 3D objects

• The JavaFX 8 printing system

• The JavaFX 8 CSS support

Weiqi will also demonstrate how some of the sample applictions he has built can be make to run on an iPhone, an iPad, and a Samsung GalaxyTab 4 7in.
